The Situation – Implement Web-Based Operations and Communications
Founded in 2001, GeoVisions arranges U.S. work, education and travel opportunities for international university students and offers programs for volunteering and teaching abroad. Since 2003, the organization has been working with Synthenet to make numerous enhancements to its Web site.
Synthenet was initially brought on board to build an online database for billing and accounting. GeoVisions also needed a Web-based platform for its clients, which Synthenet custom-developed. When first planning these projects, GeoVisions conducted extensive research on Web companies and selected Synthenet for several reasons.
The Solution – Customized Features Delivered with Personal Attention
“I like the personal contact and attention I’ve received and the company’s depth of knowledge. Others had bells and whistles, but Synthenet offered exactly what we needed,” states Randy LeGrant, Executive Director at GeoVisions. “They are very personable. I like the people they hire because they listen intently and ask really good, probing questions to get the information they need to do a superior job. I’m amazed at how much they know about our company. This knowledge helps them to execute projects exactly how we want them to.”
Since developing the online database and Web-based client platform, Synthenet designed a new Web site for GeoVisions and began hosting and maintaining its email. Synthenet is currently engaged in a three-year project to build a database for GeoVisions’ clients in other countries.
The Outcome – Seamless 24/7 Communications
“Synthenet is very integral to how our company operates and we expect continued growth with them,” asserts LeGrant. “We get positive comments on the Web site all the time. The feedback is that it is simple and flexible, which has helped us save money.”
One Synthenet-developed component of the site that stands out for GeoVisions is the e-mail system.
“Enabling us to communicate 24/7 is quite another thing because we have offices in diverse locations and time zones,” explains LeGrant. “We have partners in 60 different countries. It’s difficult to keep e-mail together for locations where it’s highly regulated, as it is in Paris, and where Internet service is sketchy, as it is in Bangkok. Email is handled seamlessly with our offices in those cities. It’s remarkable to see how Synthenet coordinates all this. We have experienced very little downtime.”
GeoVisions has also been very impressed with the Synthenet team’s work ethic.
“Synthenet works tirelessly and bends over backwards to make sure our e-mail works and that any problems get fixed,” states LeGrant. “They have hired really good, smart people who are committed to doing good work and making sure that things function properly. When we decided to build the new database, there was no question we would use Synthenet. I can’t imagine we’d go with anyone else.”
